Yelp App Redesign

INTRODUCTION & RESEARCH

The goal of this project was to identify usability gaps in a review-based application and propose design solutions that improve the overall user journey. Through research, I observed that many users search for restaurants within the app but must switch to external platforms to place orders. This created friction and disrupted the experience.

To address this, I designed and tested a new checkout flow inspired by established food-ordering apps. The feature enables users to browse, review, and order directly within the platform. This solution streamlines the process, increases user retention, and positions the app as a more comprehensive tool for restaurant discovery and engagement.v

SKETCHED WIRE FRAMES

This page of wireframes illustrates the proposed end-to-end food ordering flow within the redesigned app. Starting from the home screen, users can search for restaurants, view business profiles, read reviews, and explore menu options. From there, they have the ability to initiate an order directly through the app, with a slide-up cart that provides a running total.

The flow continues into a checkout process that integrates with third-party ordering services, followed by an order overview, confirmation, and a traveling order status bar. This sequence demonstrates how the new design transforms the app from a review-only platform into a seamless, full-service experience for discovering and ordering from local restaurants.
