Olympia, WA- City Wayfinding System

Introduction

The city of Olympia, Washington was in need of an updated wayfinding system for their downtown center and surrounding neighborhoods. As the capitol city of Washington state, the city needed a system that reflects the importance of being a capitol city combined with a distinct PNW style. The current wayfinding system was underwhelming and disjointed, and did not serve the city or it’s people well enough.

Research & Analysis

My team did extensive on-site surveys, research, and deep dives on the surrounding environment, culture, and the make-up of the city of Olympia. We assessed the needs and wants of the client in order to come up with a full pack of concepts and gateway designs. Below are two gateway concepts and two wayfinding concepts (which includes elevations, scenes, and 3D renderings) that I created which were presented to the stakeholder committee.
